On July 15, as part of his working visit to New York City, United States, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev met with UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach.

 

During the meeting, the parties discussed the continuation of the agreements reached at the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), held in Baku in May this year, as well as the next stage of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat.

 

It was noted that WUF13, the largest edition in the Forum’s history, brought together more than 58,000 participants from 176 countries and introduced a number of significant innovations at Azerbaijan’s initiative. In particular, the Leaders Segment, held for the first time in the history of the Forum, created an opportunity to discuss sustainable urbanization issues at the level of heads of state and government.

 

The parties also highlighted that the Baku Call to Action, the Chair’s Summary, the Baku Urban Award, and the new cooperation platforms launched during WUF13 have laid a strong foundation for future partnership. In this regard, they exchanged views on the implementation of the agreements reached and the next phase of joint initiatives.
